Aliens. Time travel. Space adventure. Robots. Machines. This is what comes to our mind when we think of a Sci-Fi movie. It’s because most of the time, they are based on the technology of the future.
Sci-Fi movies are not only thrilling to watch but go on to the next level by educating, inspiring, and developing our creativity. They tell us how the future will be, how technology will change our lives, and what we should be prepared for. So, it seems we all need to watch them.
Here is a list of the best Sci-Fi movies of all time. If you have missed any of these, it’s your time now.
1. Inception (2010)
Inception is not just a movie; it’s an art. Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, this science-fiction thriller presents a technology through which you can enter a person’s dream and steal information from their subconscious. However, the movie is about a mission to do the inverse, to plant an idea into the mind of a CEO. Isn’t that mind-blowing?
The movie won four Academy Awards, grossed over $828 million worldwide, and is considered one of the best movies of 2010. Be aware that once you watch this action-packed Sci-Fi thriller, you will be a fan of Christopher Nolan.
2. Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
A list of the best Sci-Fi movies is incomplete if there is no mention of aliens. Well, here we go. Edge of Tomorrow is about a future condition when most of Europe is attacked and occupied by aliens called Mimics.
Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) is forced by his superiors to join the army and fight against the aliens. But, when he is on the battlefield, something happens, and he experiences a strange time loop. He lives, dies, and then lives again. Edge of Tomorrow is a stunning movie with a breathtaking plot and remarkable visual effects that makes it worth watching again and again.
3. Arrival (2016)
Mysterious aliens have arrived on Earth with giant spaceships. Louise Banks (Amy Adams), a linguist, is employed by the United States Army to discover how to communicate with them to avoid war.
Arrival is a mystery science-fiction movie that is very different from most alien movies you have watched. The movie isn’t fast-paced with fancy alien apocalypse war, but with an extraordinary story and thought-provoking concepts that will leave you speechless.
4. The Martian (2015)
A vicious storm hit Mars, and the crew of a manned mission had to leave the planet. But Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) was presumed dead and left behind, stranded on the red planet with negligible supplies and no way to communicate with Earth. Mark must find a way to survive on Mars and tell NASA he is alive.

Some movies make you fall in love with watching movies, and Interstellar is one of the best examples. The movie presents a future condition when humans run out of food and struggle to survive. A team of explorers undertakes a journey to a different galaxy to find a new home and save humankind.

The movie is set in the year 2154 when US armed forces undergo a mission to extract a valuable mineral from an Earth-like habitable moon called Pandora, about 4.3 light-years from Earth.
The natives of Pandora called Na’vi rebels against it, but humans had a futuristic technology that allowed them to control Na’vi bodies so that they could convince the local tribe and peacefully extract the minerals. Now, if we are talking about the best Sci-Fi movies, how can we forget The Matrix. Directed by the Wachowskis, the movie depicts a future condition where intelligent machines have built a simulated reality called Matrix to trap humans and use their bodies to produce energy.
It is an overwhelming film that is loved not only for visual effects but also for the concept. Released in 1999, The Matrix really raised the bar for upcoming Sci-Fi movies.
